Description

1857-O Quarter, Rarely Seen MS64
Errant Top of 8 in Denticles

1857-O 25C Mispunched Date, FS-301, FS-006.2 MS64 PCGS. The Briggs 3-B variety can be determined by the placement of the mintmark and the presence of a faint die crack at the bases of the 1 and 8 in the date. Attrition all but eliminated the 1857-O quarter, leaving very few for collectors today. As usual, the strike is irregularly brought up. The surfaces are bright and satiny with irregular patches of reddish and blue patina around the margins. A bright untoned streak is distinctive and seen at 2 o'clock from the rim inward. Population for all 1857-O quarters: 7 in 64, 1 finer (5/16).
