Description

1819 O-109 Half Dollar, MS64+
Second on the Condition Census

1819 50C O-109, R.2, MS64+ PCGS. Overton-109 shows TE in STATES joined, and the upper serif of the C in the denomination is recut. It is plentiful through most grades, but like all 1819 half dollars becomes an important rarity in Choice condition, especially with a Plus designation. In fact, this MS64+ example ranks second on the Condition Census for the variety. Each side is frosty with deep amber-gold toning at the margins and gunmetal-blue rims on the reverse. The centers display radiant mint luster from silvery, sharply struck motifs. Minor marks barely prevent a full Gem assessment. Population (all varieties): 22 in 64 (4 in 64+), 5 finer (5/16).
