Description

1825 Half Dollar, O-115, Toned Gem
Rare in High Mint State

1825 50C O-115, R.3, MS65 NGC. Ex: Highland Collection. Attribution pick-up points for the O-115 variety include an extension of the hair below the R in LIBERTY and five extra lines off the center of gule 6. The third line of the fourth shield stripe extends to the second crossbar. Violet toning combines with gold and ice-blue color at the margins. The strike shows minor incompleteness around the peripheries, but the central relief elements are boldly rendered. Attractive patina well conceals the tiny grade-limiting marks found on each side. Tied for the top of both the Stephen Herrman and Donald Parsley census listings for the O-115 variety (6/16).
