Description
1847-O/O Half Dollar, MS64+
WB-102, Repunched Mintmark
1847-O/O 50C WB-102, Die Pair 8, R.3, MS64+ PCGS. CAC. This
richly toned near-Gem is well-detailed save for a minor depression
in the obverse shield stripes and localized softness on a few of
the obverse stars and on the eagle's left (facing) talon.
Variegated shades of pearl-gray, sunset-golden, and blue
intermingle over each side in varying degrees. The 1847-O does not
stand out among early New Orleans Mint half dollars, and its
mintage of nearly 2.6 million pieces is comparatively high.
However, those factors downplay its true rarity in Choice and
better grades. This Plus-graded and CAC-endorsed coin is a
seldom-offered Registry Set candidate that ranks high in the
Condition Census not only for the Repunched Mintmark variety, but
for all varieties of the issue.Ex: Denver Signature (Heritage, 8/2006), lot 3324 via Premium Numismatics (11/2006); Eugene H. Gardner Collection, Part IV (Heritage, 10/2015 as MS64 PCGS CAC), lot 98661.
