1889-S Liberty Twenty, MS64
None Numerically Finer at PCGS
1889-S $20 MS64 PCGS. The 1889-S Liberty double eagle claims
a mintage of 774,700 pieces but the issue circulated heavily in the
regional economy and the channels of foreign trade at the time of
issue. Most examples seen show heavy wear from circulation or
excessive surface marks from storage and transport., Until
approximately 300 pieces surfaced in the famous Saddle Ridge Hoard,
the 1889-S was a rare issue in any Mint State grade. It is still
quite elusive at the MS64 grade level and finer examples are
virtually unobtainable. This delightful Choice example offers sharply detailed design elements and the well-preserved yellow-gold surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster on both sides. Overall eye appeal is outstanding. Population: 37 in 64 (5 in 64+), 0 finer (10/14).(Registry values: N7079)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26BW, PCGS# 9012, Greysheet# 9946)
