Description

1899-S Half Dollar, Evenly Toned MS65
Scarce S-Mint Issue

1899-S 50C MS65 PCGS. The 1899-S half dollar is much scarcer than its mintage of 1.6 million pieces might indicate. Many half dollars were shipped from San Francisco Mint to the Philippines after the United States took possession of the islands after the Spanish-American War the previous year. This is a remarkably smooth example that exhibits even steel-gray and light blue toning across each side and bright underlying mint luster. Population: 16 in 65 (1 in 65+), 8 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N4719)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 24M8, PCGS# 6485, Greysheet# 6593)

Weight: 12.50 grams

Metal: 90% Silver, 10% Copper
