Shining Superb Gem 1915-S Barber Half

1915-S 50C MS67 NGC. The Barber half dollar design remained consistently unpopular throughout its tenure, and the competitions to replace his Liberty head and heraldic eagle ushered in a striking chapter in America's numismatic history. The year 1916 saw considerable enthusiasm for the first Walking Liberty halves, if not high mintages; by contrast, the 1915-dated Barber halves that were the last of their kind were virtually ignored. This Superb Gem, tied with three others in the combined certified population for numerically finest (11/08), is minimally toned with impressively lustrous silver-gray surfaces that show just a hint of gold. Well-defined and attractive.
