Description

1842 Silver Dollar, MS64
Tied for the Finest Certified

1842 $1 MS64 PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint produced 184,618 silver dollars in 1842, and the typical surviving specimen grades XF or AU. True Mint State examples are exceedingly scarce, and Choice Mint State pieces are rare. PCGS and NGC have each certified 18 examples, and neither service has certified a finer piece (5/16). This impressive example has excellent design definition, with weakness only on a few stars and on the eagle's neck and leg, and even those areas retain partial feather detail. The satiny silver surfaces are brilliant and untoned, showing only trivial marks.(Registry values: N4719)
