Description

1943 Steel Cent, MS68
Top-Grade CAC Registry Coin

1943 1C MS68 PCGS. CAC. This 1943 steel cent displays frosty mint luster along with a sharp strike. In 1943, as part of the war effort, copper was preserved for use in ammunition manufacturing. The Mint diverted its copper supply normally used for the Lincoln cents and instead struck cents out of an alternative metal which was zinc-coated steel. The steel alloy was only used for that year. This example is among the finest graded by PCGS and is nearly flawless. CAC also agrees that the eye-appeal of this piece is solid for the grade. Population: 90 in 68 (3 in 68+), 0 finer. CAC: 41 in 68, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N991)
