Challenging MS63 1901-S Double Eagle

1901-S $20 MS63 PCGS. A thoroughly lustrous sun-gold Select Type Three twenty that boasts an even strike and a well preserved reverse. A few light obverse grazes are fewer than expected of the grade. The 1901-S is plentiful in grades through MS62, but since John H. Clapp may have been the only one setting aside high grade branch mint gold coins in 1901, few have survived in Select Uncirculated condition.(Registry values: N2998)
