Description

1795 Half Dollar
Well Struck O-125, T-13

1795 50C Two Leaves, O-125, T-13, Low R.4, PCGS Genuine. In our opinion, this coin has the details of an Unc specimen that has been scratched. Tompkins Die Stage 2/2, with clash marks on obverse, and the reverse lower die crack is just emerging. This example has a number of reverse scratches, under the eagle's head and on the right side of the reverse. The toning is alternating light gray and dark gray. Despite the issues, the strike is strong for a Flowing Hair half dollar, with pleasing central details on the portrait, and on the reverse with eagle's breast feather definition.
Ex: Johnson-Blue Collection (Stack's, 8/2010), lot 487.
