Description
1867 Half Dime, PR68 ★
Finest Certified Example
1867 H10C PR68 ★ NGC. The finest certified example, this
coin displays deep aqua blue toning to the centers, with a dash of
lighter yellow-gold near the rim on the obverse. The reverse sports
lighter blue with a dusky gold-gray overlay. On the reverse, we
also note a couple of faint lines that were in the planchet prior
to striking as they move through letters and the wreath without
interruption. The eye appeal is extraordinary if you like toned
coins and demand surfaces that are exceptionally clean. The coin
exhibits an intricate strike. The number coined for the year was a token 625 pieces, perhaps half of which remain today. The regular issue coinage for 1867 half dimes was quite low, so many collectors obtain a Proof example instead of a regular issue example of this date, which adds further pressure to this meager Proof mintage. Census: 2 in 68 (1 in 68 ★ ), 0 finer (12/13).
