VAM-14.1, 'Alligator Eye'
1878 8TF $1 Alligator Eye, VAM-14.1, MS66 PCGS. Light die
doubling on Liberty's eye gives this variety its moniker. The
reverse is also lightly die doubled on most elements. The present
coin displays a sharp strike and outstanding preservation. A blush
of light golden toning warms the softly frosted luster. Finer eight
tailfeathers 1878 Morgans are exceedingly rare. Population (all 8TF
varieties included): 52 in 66 (4 in 66+), 2 finer (5/16).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 253H, Variety PCGS# 133796, Base PCGS# 7072, Greysheet# 25033)
