Description
1882 Silver Dollar, MS67
Condition Census Rarity
1882 $1 MS67 NGC. Unlike that of the San Francisco issue of
this year, the 1882 Philadelphia Morgan dollar's availability
begins to peter out rather quickly on the topside of MS65. Superb
Gems are genuinely rare and none are known in Prooflike or Deep
Mirror Prooflike strikes. NGC and PCGS combined list only 19 pieces
in MS67 and none finer (although each service reports the existence
of an MS67+ coin) (5/16). Further substantiating its rarity in this
grade, our Auction Archives show only four previous appearances of
an 1882 dollar in MS67, all occurring in a 10-year period from 2004
to 2014.This magnificent example deserves the utmost attention. The strike is razor-sharp, and the unabraded surfaces yield vibrant, cartwheeling luster with a thick, frosty texture. The interiors show a faint glimpse of champagne color, surrounded by a halo of deeper gold at the rims. Undeniably a rare and important opportunity for the Morgan dollar collector.(Registry values: P3, N4719)
