Description

1918/7-S Standing Liberty Quarter, AU55
Head Details Exceed 50%

1918/7-S 25C AU55 PCGS. Technically a doubled die, the obverse was first impressed with the 1917 hub, then reimpressed with the 1918 hub, creating the overdate. The same doubled die process created all 20th century overdates. The doubled die 1918/7 quarter obverse was made at the Philadelphia die shop, then sent to San Francisco, where the mintmark was punched into the die, and the die placed in production.
The original mintage of this overdate variety will never be known, but it was doubtless small, given the rarity of surviving examples. This Choice AU specimen has brilliant silver-gray surfaces with mostly strong details, including a bold overdate. More than half of the head details remain at the upper obverse.(Registry values: N4719)
