Description

1827 Square Base 2 Half Dollar, VG10
Very Rare Overton-137
An 'Extra Feather' Variety

1827 50C Square Base 2, O-137, Low R.6, VG10 PCGS. Stars 12 and 13 are visibly closer together than the other stars, while the I in PLURIBUS is far left of the second T in STATES. A faint pair of extra feathers hang off the right (facing) wing near R and I of AMERICA. This challenging variety is missing from the vast majority of Bust half dollar collections. For those brave souls who attempt the complete subset of 1827 Capped Bust halves, it is one of the keys. This is a problem-free VG10 example, with smooth and pleasing silver-gray surfaces that meld into medium-gray border toning. A cloud-gray toning spot centered on Liberty's lower neck identifies this well-defined and carefully preserved example.
