Description
1920-S Nickel, Lustrous MS65
Seldom Offered So Fine
1920-S 5C MS65 PCGS. It is extremely difficult to get a
1920-S Buffalo nickel certified at the Gem grade level. Few coins
exhibit the surface quality necessary for that classification, and
even then many pieces are so weakly struck from worn dies that they
cannot be called finer than MS64. This piece lacks nothing in
preservation, showing unabraded, frosty luster cast in delicate
lavender-gold and powder-blue toning. Although incomplete at the
centers, the strike is above average, and die failure issues are
limited to minor flowlines in the fields. We offer Gem 1920-S
nickels on rare occasions, and PCGS coins are in the minority.
Population: 35 in 65 (5 in 65+), 1 finer (12/24).Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2018), lot 4785.(Registry values: N4719)
