Description

1861 Three Dollar Gold, MS60
Scarce in Mint State

1861 $3 MS60 NGC. The fields are lightly abraded but mint luster is strong and the motifs show a sharp strike. Bowers notes Mint State examples show striations from the planchet preparation, a characteristic of this yellow-gold coin as well. Just 5,959 pieces were struck, and Uncirculated survivors of the 1861 likely number fewer than 100 pieces in all grades.(Registry values: N2998)
