Description
1847 Liberty Eagle, MS62
Scarce P-Mint No Motto Type Coin
1847 $10 MS62 PCGS. The two highest mintage issues of the No
Motto Liberty ten series are the 1847 and 1847-O. Something
happened that year to increase production, and the mostly likely
cause was the Spanish-American War, which continued throughout
1847. Despite a comparatively large production, the 1847 is usually
seen in XF and AU grades. Mint State examples are very scarce, and
only a handful of pieces have been certified finer than the present
example. It is well struck except for the final star, and offers
lustrous honey-gold surfaces. Distributed marks include a slender
diagonal line on the cheek. Population: 25 in 62 (2 in 62+), 4
finer (7/19).(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 262Z, PCGS# 8597, Greysheet# 9367)
