Description

1879 Three Dollar, MS61
Only 3,000 Coins Minted

1879 $3 MS61 PCGS. Only 3,000 three dollar gold pieces were struck in 1879 after a record-setting quantity was produced the year before. Contrary to belief, the reaching of parity between gold and paper money had no effect on stimulating demand for this denomination. Semiprooflike orange-gold surfaces exhibit strong detail and partial reflectivity in the fields, where wispy, grade-limiting marks occur.
