(1842-52) G$1 A. Bechtler Dollar, 27G. 21C., Plain Edge -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. AU. K-24, R.3. The 27-gram Bechtler gold dollar was struck in the waning years of the North Carolina private mint during its operation by August Bechtler, a son of mint founder Christopher Bechtler. The present briefly circulated example displays attractive caramel-gold surfaces that are faintly hairlined from a wipe long ago. The field is slightly wavy near the L in GOLD, as removed from the dies. Listed on page 391 of the 2026 Guide Book.
