Important 1879-CC Morgan Dollar, MS65 ★

1879-CC $1 MS65 ★ NGC. Perfect Mintmark. The 1879-CC Morgan dollar, especially at the Gem level, is a coin that must rank near the top of many collectors' want lists. While some series enthusiasts prefer beautifully toned examples, a large number also occupy the "brilliant is best" camp, and this piece will definitely appeal to their standards. The reflective, brilliant surfaces have frosty devices with no trace of toning, and the strike details are uniformly sharp. A few minor handling marks in the field before Liberty's face apparently preclude an even finer grade on this coin, a nonetheless highly appealing Gem that gets the concurrence of NGC through its coveted Star designation. Although NGC has certified more than three dozen Gem 1879-CCs, there is only one example currently shown with the Star designation--presumably this coin (5/10). An important offering for the many Morgan dollar fans.(Registry values: P7, N4719)
