Description

1928 Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS67
Strong Registry Set Contender

1928 $20 MS67 PCGS. The 1928 Saint-Gaudens double eagle claims a series-record mintage of more than 8.8 million pieces. Historically, high-mintage issues are seldom well-made, as speed and volume of delivery usually trumps quality control. However, this is not the case with the 1928 double eagle. Most examples seen are sharply struck, with vibrant mint luster and minimal surface flaws. Easily located in high grade, the 1928 is a particular favorite with type collectors.

Although the 1928 is one of the most consistently attractive issues of the series, the present coin really stands out from the crowd. The design elements exhibit razor-sharp definition throughout and the impeccably preserved orange-gold surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster, with reddish-gold highlights. Overall visual appeal is terrific. Population: 85 in 67 (3 in 67+), 0 finer (5/16).(Registry values: N4719)
