1844-D $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. Variety 5-I. The mintmark is centered over the fraction bar, with the tip of the fletching within the loop of the D. The Georgia branch mint struck 17,332 of these diminutive gold coins in 1844, and survivors are typically seen in XF45-AU50 condition. This Choice AU example features a razor-sharp strike and minimal marks over yellow-gold surfaces. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 27 in 55, 32 finer (7/19).(Registry values: P2)
