Description

1954 Half Dollar, PR68 Deep Cameo
Very Scarce With Such Strong Contrast

1954 50C PR68 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Most 1954 half dollars were struck from heavily repolished dies. The striations across the portrait of Franklin are often mistaken for post-striking impairment, but they are found on a high percentage of 1954 halves. The status of this year was best assessed by Rick Tomaska:

" ... the vast majority of these coins [cameos] are only moderately contrasted off repolished dies. Ultra-heavy examples are occasionally encountered. They are a real sleeper in this condition."

This is an all-brilliant half that shows shimmering mirrored fields, which set up much of the contrast against the heavily frosted devices. Population: 10 in 68 Deep Cameo, 0 finer. CAC: 5 in 68, 0 finer (7/16).(Registry values: N4719)
