1856 $10 MS62 PCGS. CAC. About half of the 60,490 eagles minted in 1856 were delivered on Leap Day, February 29 according to Mint delivery records. The other half were produced during the last week of May and the first two weeks of June. Surviving Mint State examples of the 1856 are rare, yet available from time-to-time. According to certification data, PCGS and NGC have graded 60 pieces in MS60 or better, including three at the top grade of MS64. This MS62 example is housed in a green-label PCGS holder and exhibits tremendous eye appeal with a bold strike and satin luster on its brilliant yellow surfaces. Population: 8 in 62, 7 finer. CAC: 1 in 62, 0 finer (1/18).
