Description

1856-S Type Two Gold Dollar, AU58
Exquisite Orange-Gold Surfaces

1856-S G$1 Type Two AU58 PCGS. Lustrous deep orange-gold surfaces show few signs of contact, and signs of wear are similarly scarce. A die crack extends from the E in AMERICA into the portrait. Type Two gold dollars were only made for three years: 1854 through 1856, and only San Francisco produced the type in its last year of issue. The Philadelphia Mint's production in 1854 and 1855 comprised almost 95% of the production of this type, leaving just a small sliver for the scarce branch mint issues.(Registry values: N1793)
