Description
1889 Gold Dollar, PR65 CAC
Scarce JD-2 Die Marriage
1889 G$1 Low Date, JD-2, R.6, PR65 PCGS. CAC. This
glittering Gem contains deep satiny luster and mirroring over rich,
yellow-gold surfaces. Striking weakness is limited to the hair
under the headband, as with many gold dollars of this decade. Many
proofs of this year contain less Cameo contrast than normal, as
less attention was paid to the smaller proofs, especially in this
final year of issue. Another likely contributing factor was the
record mintage of 1,779 proofs. However, this does not detract from
the stunning eye appeal of this piece.Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 106180, Base PCGS# 7639, Greysheet# 375529)
