Gorgeous PR66 1885 Gold Dollar

1885 G$1 PR66 PCGS. CAC. While the high mintages of proof 1880s gold dollars, a trend spurred at least in part by their popularity as gifts among the Northeastern elite, has made such pieces readily available in lesser grades, coins finer than Gem remain elusive and prized. This PR66 example was certified during the green-label era, and both sides show considerable contrast, though it is questionable whether it would merit a Cameo designation today. Gleaming fields are mostly rich yellow-gold, though both obverse and reverse show considerable cores of pale silvery color. Population: 15 in 66, 3 finer (10/10).(Registry values: P1)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25EV, PCGS# 7635, Greysheet# 8193)
