Description

1878-S Morgan Dollar, MS67
Just 10 Finer at NGC

1878-S $1 MS67 NGC. Gorgeous silver surfaces are highlighted with periwinkle on the lower obverse periphery, along with soft rainbow toning in the upper right quadrant. The reverse is imbued with rose and russet highlights. The original mintage of this issue was 9.77 million, all from the Reverse of 1878 type with parallel top arrow feathers. Bowers estimates that 5 to 6 million remained at the Mint, with most released in the 1950s, in large part by casinos. Few, however, survive this fine, and this example is nearly unimprovable. Census: 63 in 67 (2 in 67+, 8 in 67 ), 0 finer (12/25).(Registry values: P2, N2998)
