1804 Quarter, CAC-Approved VG10
Rare B-2 Die Marriage
1804 25C B-2, R.5, VG10 NGC. CAC. Tompkins Die State 1/2,
perfect obverse, lapped reverse. B-2 is the rarer of the two 1804
quarter die varieties, seldom found in any grade above VG. Examples
are usually weak on the stars and clouds above the eagle's head,
and this piece is consistent in that regard. However, the student
of early, screw press-struck type coins will immediately appreciate
the full rims on both sides and almost completely visible dentils.
Smooth olive-gray and gunmetal surfaces are problem free and
