Description
1856-S Double Eagle, MS62
From the 2014 Central America Recovery
1856-S $20 No Serif, Full A, Variety-17M, S.S. Central
America #2 (with Pinch) MS62 PCGS. Ex: S.S.
Central America. The 2014 SSCA recovery efforts salvaged
304 1856-S double eagles, the finest of which was graded MS64+.
While that is a considerable find that further expands the 1856-S
population data, the newly found coins are far less than the For
1,166 1857-S twenties that were brought up during the same 2014
recovery operations. Keep in mind these totals are in addition to
the thousands of coins discovered during the late 1980s and 1990s .
This blazing MS62 representative enjoys swirling mint luster over
satin-smooth yellow-gold surfaces. A shallow reeding mark on the
neck and a few thin abrasions limit the grade, while the eye appeal
far exceeds its assigned grade. Housed with a pinch of gold dust
from the S.S. Central America. The insert is signed by Bob
Evans, Chief Scientist for the expedition.Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 670707, Base PCGS# 8919)
