Description

1856 Victoria Cent, J. VELDON / QUEBEC, VG Host; VF Counterstamp. Unlisted in the Brunk book, but the counterstamp is included in Marked Impressions as M.I. 942. Two separate prepared line punches exist vertically on Victoria's portrait. John J. Veldon was born in 1845 and was a chemist, druggist and apothecary in Quebec City (listed in nearby St. Roch). He was located on St. Joseph Street from 1868 to 1897. No doubt, Veldon was familiar with Devins & Bolton, Canada's premier counterstamper and pharmaceutical counterpart.
