Description

1857 Flying Eagle Cent, MS65
Type of 1856, Snow-2, FS-401b

1857 1C Obverse of 1856, Snow-2, FS-401b, MS65 PCGS. The O in OF has a nearly rectangular opening, similar to the famous 1856 Flying Eagle cent. Most 1857 Flying Eagle cents are the Oval O, Type of 1857 variety. A well struck, coruscating, and mark-free Gem with dusky green-gold toning and a few unimportant obverse flecks.

A die crack through the top of the date correlates to Snow-2e, one of six die varieties of the Snow-2 Type of 1856 variety. But the reverse has a die crack from 9:30 to the wreath, which would make the variety Snow-2d. The reverse has a trio of bold die lines from 10 o'clock to the wreath, unmentioned in the Snow reference.
