Description

1928 Quarter, MS67 Full Head
An Important Condition Rarity

1928 25C MS67 Full Head PCGS. CAC. Ex: North Shore. While the 1928 is among the most available issues in the series, Superb Gems with Full Heads, such as the present example, are notably rare. This a Condition Census example, and it has grounds to be considered one of the few finest Full Head examples known. Examining the certified population figures, PCGS has seen nine coins in MS67 Full Head and one -- the Just Having Fun-Simpson example -- in MS67+ Full Head. NGC also shows 10 submissions in MS67 Full Head (including two Plus- and one Star-designated pieces), but with two MS68 Full Head coins finer. The only MS68 Full Head coin that has ever appeared at auction was offered in a 2003 Superior Galleries auction, and that coin is now the MS67+ Full Head Just Having Fun-Simpson coin.

In terms of sheer quality and eye appeal, this coin lacks nothing and is fully deserving of its lofty numeric grade. Just a wisp of soft rainbow color clings to the obverse margin of this radiantly lustrous piece. Both sides are immaculately preserved. A couple of light die cracks are visible at the left obverse border. Population: 10 in 67 (1 in 67+) Full Head, 0 finer. CAC: 5 in 67, 0 finer (9/24).
