Description
1872-CC Half Eagle, AU50
Carson City Condition Rarity
1872-CC $5 AU50 PCGS. Variety 1-B. The more accessible of
two varieties recognized by the standard text, showing the mintmark
positioned lower. Neither variety is particularly accessible,
however, and the 1872-CC half eagle as a whole is a condition
rarity in AU and better. While this AU50 representative has
typically soft detail through the interior high points, actual wear
is surprisingly minimal, as evidenced by the generous remaining
luster that swirls through the apricot-laced yellow-gold fields. A
pinscratch to the left of Liberty's chin precludes a finer grade
within the adjectival category. Population: 10 in 50, 11 finer
(3/13).(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25WG, PCGS# 8326, Greysheet# 9053)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
