1913-S Lincoln Cent, MS66 Red
Incredibly Pedigreed Top-Grade Example
Ex: Walsh-Lee-Martin-Hansen

1913-S 1C MS66 Red PCGS. Ex: Martin-Hansen-Whispering Pines. A well-known semikey from the 1910s, the 1913-S claims a rather small mintage for a 20th century cent (6.1 million pieces). Many Mint State survivors display inadequate detail and subdued luster, with worn dies playing a role. Lest one despair of ever finding a high grade representative of this conditionally challenging issue, we call attention to the present example. Dave Bowers notes: "The advantage of being a smart buyer and cherrypicking is implied by David W. Lange's comment that many coins certified as Red 'just barely make the cut.' Words to heed, I would say! Mint State coins with original color have distinctive hues."

This Premium Gem shows a hint of softness on the upper left corner of the O in ONE and on portions of the AM in AMERICA, but the definition is sharp overall, certainly well above-average for the issue. The straw-gold obverse is remarkably undisturbed, while the coppery reverse is includes pleasing lavender accents. A singular carbon fleck above the N in CENT and a tick right of the T in CENT identify this coin.
