(1790) Washington Before Boston
Original Medal in Bronze, Unc Details
Baker-47B, Musante GW-09-P1

(1790) Washington Before Boston Medal in Bronze--Improperly Cleaned--NGC Details. Unc. Baker-47B, Betts-542, Julian MI-1b, Musante GW-09-P1. 68.8 mm. The largest of the Comitia Americana medals and one of the most popular, the design has been restruck numerous times in its history, but this example is one of the classic bronze originals from the first regular-issue Paris Mint dies. Diagnostics from Rulau-Fuld, Medallic Portraits of Washington: "On all originals, the O in PRIMO is perfectly round ... There are periods after XVII. and MDCCLXXVI. The last I of MARTII is under the R of RECUPERATUM." Scattered light abrasions and hairlines from a past cleaning do little to dull this medal's inherent majesty.
