1923 Cent, Stunning MS68 Red
Tied for Finest, Ex: Hansen

1923 1C MS68 Red PCGS. Ex: Hansen-Whispering Pines. The relative availability of the 1923 cent in low and middle Red grades earns the issue common date status in the eyes of most collectors, but these available moderate-graded coins are not suitable for the collections of the most advanced Registry competitors. Where only the finest is good enough, the 1923 Lincoln becomes a tremendous rarity. "The finest" for this date is a trio of MS68 Red coins reported by PCGS (11/24). All three of these coins are plated on PCGS CoinFacts, confirming that they are indeed three individual coins. And yet, none have appeared at auction ... until now.

The Whispering Pines piece yields vivid red borders around rich fire-orange interior color, with satiny mint luster and a bold strike. A tiny speck on the edge of the wheat ear left of the C in CENT serves to differentiate this coin from the other two MS68s. Population: 3 in 68 Red, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N2998)
