1843-C Quarter Eagle, XF45
Large Date With CAC Approval
1843-C $2 1/2 Large Date, Plain 4, XF45 PCGS. CAC. Variety
1. Repunched 18 in the date. Two varieties are known for the
1843-C quarter eagle. This Large Date type is more collectible than
its Small Date cousin, yet no more than 250 to 300 or so pieces are
believed extant. Lightly hairlined surfaces display attractive
reddish-gold patina and strong detail on the stars, legends and
other elements, while the centers are typically soft. Two parallel
linear abrasions between the eagle's head and right (facing) wing
will identify this example in future appearances. CAC: 4 in 45, 18
