Description

1843-C Quarter Eagle, XF45
Large Date With CAC Approval

1843-C $2 1/2 Large Date, Plain 4, XF45 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1. Repunched 18 in the date. Two varieties are known for the 1843-C quarter eagle. This Large Date type is more collectible than its Small Date cousin, yet no more than 250 to 300 or so pieces are believed extant. Lightly hairlined surfaces display attractive reddish-gold patina and strong detail on the stars, legends and other elements, while the centers are typically soft. Two parallel linear abrasions between the eagle's head and right (facing) wing will identify this example in future appearances. CAC: 4 in 45, 18 finer (3/19).(Registry values: P2)
