Description

1950-D Lincoln Cent, MS68 Red
The Sole Finest Known, Ex: Biwald

1950-D 1C MS68 Red PCGS. Ex: Biwald-Whispering Pines. The 1950-D is typically a fairly cut and dried issue for most collectors. Quality-conscious individuals seeking an affordable piece will look for an MS67 Red, while advanced Registry collectors and well-heeled specialists will choose to wait for one of the few known MS67+ Red pieces -- there are 18 coins in that grade at PCGS (11/24). However, the Whispering Pines example breaks that mold, introducing itself as a long wolf in the elite grade of MS68 Red -- a grade unmatched by any other example of the date. The coin is fully struck and luminous, with undisturbed, unblemished mint luster. Most of each side flares rose-red, although the right margin on each side has lighter iridescent gold. Population: 1 in 68 Red, 0 finer (11/24).(Registry values: N1793)
