Description

1845-O Liberty Quarter Eagle, AU53
Most Elusive O-Mint in the Series

1845-O $2 1/2 AU53 PCGS. Variety 1. The 1845-O is the rarest New Orleans quarter eagle, from a minuscule mintage of just 4,000 pieces. The surviving population is probably only 65-75 examples in all grades, and only a handful are known in AU. This lightly circulated specimen retains most of its original detail and luster, although the reverse is softly struck on the central devices. There is a mint-made depression from Liberty's hair to star 13, probably caused by a strike-through. A few minor abrasions are noted on both sides. Population: 5 in 53, 8 finer (8/11).
