Description

1846-D Quarter Eagle, AU58
Scarce Variety 7-J

1846-D $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Variety 7-J. This scarce variety shows none of the fletchings of the arrow in the top of the D, and the die crack is clear from the wing through the E in AMERICA. Faint traces of luster remain around the obverse margin; the fields are otherwise bright and semiprooflike. Each side has a distinctive reddish tinge, and the centers show a bit of striking softness. Lightly abraded.
