1846-D Quarter Eagle, AU58
Scarce Variety 7-J
1846-D $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Variety 7-J. This scarce variety
shows none of the fletchings of the arrow in the top of the D, and
the die crack is clear from the wing through the E in AMERICA.
Faint traces of luster remain around the obverse margin; the fields
are otherwise bright and semiprooflike. Each side has a distinctive
reddish tinge, and the centers show a bit of striking softness.
