Description
Near-Gem 1847-C Quarter Eagle
Great 'Southern Gold Type'
1847-C $2 1/2 MS64 PCGS. Variety 1. The 1847-C, a
single-die-pair quarter eagle date with a mintage of 23,226 pieces,
is also one of the few Charlotte gold issues to be available at the
MS64 level, though "available" is a relative term; just 10 pieces,
three at NGC and seven at PCGS, are certified at this level with
none finer (9/11). This is a yellow-gold beauty, softly lustrous on
the obverse with muting at the left margin but a much brighter
reverse. Well-defined and carefully preserved, a coin that is
unquestionably suited to reverse-up or mirror-mount display that
shows off its "C" mintmark. From The Baltimore Collection, Part Two.(Registry values: P2)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25H6, PCGS# 7745, Greysheet# 8355)
Weight: 4.18 grams
