Description

1793 S-1, B-1 Cent, Fine 15
Philadelphia Mint's First Coin

1793 1C Chain, AMERI., S-1, B-1, R.4, Fine 15 PCGS. Following Congressional approval of the Mint Act of April 1792, a few patterns were struck, along with a quantity of 1792 half dismes that were likely intended for circulation. However, the half dismes were apparently not struck inside the walls of the new Mint building, and the Chain AMERI. cent therefore holds the distinction of the Mint's first coin produced for circulation at the Philadelphia Mint. This example, despite exhibiting myriad circulation marks, has pleasing chocolate-brown and tan surfaces with no corrosion. Trivial rim bumps are inconsequential. The S-1 Chain AMERI. cent is arguably the most historic emission during the David Rittenhouse administration. Our EAC grade VG7.
