Description

1942-P Nickel, Scarce PR66 Cameo
Silver Alloy Wartime Type

1942-P 5C Type Two PR66 Cameo PCGS. CAC. In 1942, the nickel alloy was changed from 75% copper and 25% nickel to 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese, allowing more copper and nickel to be turned over to the military for the war effort. The temporary change in alloy was marked on the coins by enlarging the mintmark and moving it to the field above Monticello. This Premium Gem proof Cameo example of the wartime issue shows full sharpness and brilliant, modestly contrasted surfaces that are devoid of contact marks. Population: 9 in 66 Cameo, 4 finer (including 1 in 66 Deep Cameo). CAC: 6 in 66, 1 finer (3/18).(Registry values: N208)
