Description
1885-CC Double Eagle, AU55
Scarce, Low-Mintage Issue
1885-CC $20 AU55 NGC. Variety 1-A. From a small mintage of
just 9,450 pieces, the 1885-CC Liberty double eagle is the scarcest
Carson City twenty of the decade. Probably 350-400 examples survive
in all grades today, with most examples seen in the XF-AU grade
range. This attractive Choice AU specimen displays just a touch of
wear on the design elements, which show much better-than-average
detail for the issue. The pleasing greenish-gold surfaces are
lightly abraded and retain much of their original mint luster.
Altogether, a most attractive representative of this scarce and
underrated issue.Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2015), lot 4361.(Registry values: N2998)
