Description
Broadstruck, Indented, Underweight 1890 Cent
1890 1C Indian Cent--40% Indented Broadstrike on a 2.6 gram Planchet--AU50 PCGS. A typical bronze alloy Indian cent weighs 3.11 grams. This softly struck cent retains enough original gold luster in protected areas to confirm a technical AU50 grade. It appears that two planchets were fed into the coinage chamber at the same time. The second planchet (not included) overlapped most of the upper half of the obverse die. The presence of two planchets, one of which was positioned off center, blocked the collar die. The indent displays wispy marks, and a spot affects the T in CENT.(Registry values: N69)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 228J, PCGS# 2175, Greysheet# 1386)
