Description

1923-S Half Dollar, MS66
Top-Notch Condition Rarity
Former Gene Gardner Coin

1923-S 50C MS66 PCGS Secure. CAC. Ex: Dakota-Duckor. This San Francisco issue claims a relatively high mintage of 2.1 million pieces, but the coins had an important role in circulation at the time. The 1923-S was the sole Walking Liberty half dollar struck at any U.S. mint between 1922 and 1926. Consequently, the 1923-S is often seen in low grades, leaving few well-preserved examples for today's collectors.

This attractive Premium Gem displays pleasing original patina. Shades include mottled olive, lime-green, and gold tones that gather most noticeably near the borders. Strike definition is typically soft over the centers, but the softly frosted surfaces are smooth and free of distractions. Population: 9 in 66 (2 in 66+), 1 finer. CAC: 60% of submissions for this issue/grade passed. 6 in 66, 2 finer (11/17).
