1880 $1 MS66 Prooflike PCGS. The 1880 Morgan comes from a generous mintage of 12,600,000 pieces, and is readily obtainable in the better Mint State grades. Prooflike examples can be located through near-Gem without too much trouble, but higher-grade specimens are elusive.
The present Premium Gem Prooflike coin reveals untoned surfaces that yield modest field-motif contrast. A better-than-average strike imparts relatively strong definition to the design features, including the hair above Liberty's ear and the eagle's breast feathers. Both sides are nicely preserved. Population: 2 in 66 Prooflike, 0 finer (11/08).
